Arbor Day tree planting at Taumataka-hu Stream Walkway in Temuka...
NETcon staff and families were joined by NETcon Director, Alister France, who also pitched in with the planting. About 1500 trees were planted as part of NETcon’s commitment to reducing impact on the environment.
The new plantings represent the re-placement of trees cut down to protect the poles and lines infrastructure around South Canterbury. A BBQ followed the hard work with en-tertainment for younger ones—including a ride in one of the NETcon bucket trucks marking the end to what was a cold but fulfilling day. If you are not aware of it, Arbor Day is the day in which the country celebrates its trees.
It is designed to encourage people to plant and care for trees so that they can continue to provide shelter for our unique wildlife, moderate climate, stabilise the ground to prevent erosion and control floodwaters. And just as importantly, trees improve our air quality.
