NETcon Linemen succeed at Pole Inspection competition at ESITO event.
For the first time the Electricity Supply Industry’s Annual Connection event was held in Christchurch from 22 to 24 October. The three day event featured skill competitions, an industry expo and conference as well as the announcement of excellence awards in the training area.
Competitions for cable jointers and line mechanics provided the opportunity to test the quality of workmanship and technical knowledge, and to demonstrate the industry’s high standard of safety and work practice.
Scott Tweedy, Shay McLaren-Smith, Mike Quirke and Jason Jones represented the NETcon Team in the linesman competition; Jamie McQueen competed in the Cable Jointer events. In a competitive field of twelve teams the Timaru crew faced challenges like pole and hardware installation, pole top rescue, crane operation and first aid. The line mechanics under captain Mike Quirke won the Wooden Pole Testing section.
Mike Quirke also received the Award for Outstanding Leader which was presented at Awards Dinner on the final day. NETcon’s Electrical Technician Andrew Bartlett was amongst the top three finalists for the Advanced Trainee of the Year Award.
