Upgrading transformers is a common task for NETcon's line mechanics.

The pictures below show some of the work carried out before and after the replacement of a pole type transformer at Settlement Road, Seadown, Timaru, in August 2015.

  • Hotsticks are used to cut off the tails in order to disconnect the transformer from the main line.
  • Once the transformer has been replaced, a shot gun is used to connect the live line clamps to he main line.
  • Fuses are connected in preparation to re-liven the transformer.
  • A post livening test is carried out to ensure the transformer is connected correctly.
